POSITION: LIBRARIAN
School of Leadership, Rwanda seeks an experienced, dynamic librarian for grades 6-10. The ideal candidate will support our school’s mission, goals, and vision, value
community; bring a spirit of enthusiasm and energy, and be willing to take thoughtful initiative in a
collaborative setting. We are looking for applicants who are independent, creative, and who can
design and develop library programs that inspire curiosity, inquiry, and a life-long love of reading.
An ESL background is a plus!
Responsibilities:
1. Design and implement a comprehensive information literacy curriculum grounded in IT
2. Design and teach basic integrated research skills and provide reading support for
academic classes
3. Work with dean of faculty and English teachers to align existing resources practices with
curriculum
4. Ensure the library collection represents a diverse range of authors and topics
5. Empower students to be critical thinkers, enthusiastic readers, and skillful researchers
6. Help build and maintain the library’s collection, especially online resources, including
circulation, collection development, inventory, and evaluation
7. Oversee library monitoring, including evening hours, and other duties as assigned
8. Promote a lifelong love of reading and a robust reading culture through regularly
scheduled book clubs, book talks, displays, possible author visits, etc.
9. Support and participate in a professional learning community
10. Understand the needs of and enjoy working with adolescents
11. Create a joyful, vibrant and welcoming environment
Qualifications:
1. Master of Library Science (MLS) preferred; BA required
2. At least 2 years of school experience
3. Flexibility, curiosity, enthusiasm, and an extensive knowledge of literature, especially
literature for young women
4. Strong knowledge of content area, teaching methods, learning styles and educational
research related to ESL learners and readers
5. Strong grasp of information technology as related to library science
6. Understanding of the scope and sequence of library and information literacy curriculum
7. Experience in evaluating and selecting print and digital resources
8. Excellent communication skills, including the ability to proactively collaborate with
students and faculty
Technology and Software Knowledge: G Suite for Education, Microsoft Office, tablet usage,
Follett Destiny Library Manager, LibGuides, social networking, database and digital content.
